Little LeagueURL: Little League
Little League Softball was created in 1974, and currently fields nearly 24,000 teams and has more than, 360,000 participants, ages 5-18. The Little League Softball program is a component of Little League Baseball and Softball, the world’s largest organized youth sports program, with nearly 2.7 million players and more than one million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and scores of other countries. The Little League organization is a Federal Incorporation granted under a Bill signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 17, 1964, and amended December 24, 1974, to reflect the admission of girls - it is the only youth sports program so honored. The partnership with National Professional Fastpitch began in the winter of 2009, and is part of Little League International’s effort to broaden the exposure of the Little League softball program, while expanding the educational resources available to Little League softball managers and coaches.
